James had been struggling with his diabetes for several years when he attended one of DeWayne's diabetes workshops. Initially he thought this man was a little crazy and too passionate about his experience with diabetes. Unfortunately, James' health continued to deteriorate with a higher average blood glucose level (140-245), higher hemoglobin A1C (8%), higher blood pressure (140/90), higher cholesterol (280), and additional weight gain (243). James had to take several medications, including glucophage (1000 mg twice a day), Lipitor (20 mg once a day), and a water pill (once a day). James was also experiencing a lot of fatigue as he found himself wanting to take a nap in the middle of the day. He also struggled walking his dog because of the lack of energy. Then, after a filament test determined James had the first signs of neuropathy, he had to start walking with a cane.
At this point James felt that he nothing to lose, so he purchased DeWayne's book "Death to Diabetes" and started making some changes to his meals and exercise habits. After a couple weeks, he called DeWayne to set up an appointment to get several questions answered about his diabetes and his nutritional program.
James was pleasantly surprised by the abundance of specific information that DeWayne provided, and the identification of 5 specific corrective actions that he needed to make in the areas of nutrition ( breakfast, snacks, dinner) and exercise (aerobic, anaerobic). James immediately went shopping for spinach, broccoli, salmon, virgin olive oil, and several other key foods. James also stopped eating many of the processed "dead" foods identified in DeWayne's book. Within 3 weeks, James noticed a dramatic drop in his average blood glucose level and an increase in his energy level! This, in turn, made it easier for James to exercise and to walk his dog.
James was so excited, he called DeWayne and asked, "Is it really this simple? Is this going to continue?"
DeWayne told James: "It's what you're doing, it's your commitment to making the changes - that's why you're getting healthier."
James: "You don't sound surprised about my progress."
DeWayne: "James, I hear stories like yours almost every day now. And, in every case, it's the motivation and drive of the person that makes my program successful. Keep up the good work, and let me know how your next doctor appointment goes."
After 3 months on the program, James scheduled an appointment with his doctor. When the doctor walked in, he told James, "Your fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin A1C are almost back in the normal range. So, we can reduce your diabetic medication. Your blood pressure and cholesterol are better, but I'm not certain if we should take you off those medications as well. Let's put that off until your next appointment, but keep up the good work!"
After about 2 more months on the program, James revisited his doctor, who said, "Your fasting blood glucose and hemoglobin A1C are back in the normal range! So, we can consider taking you off your diabetic medication. Your blood pressure (118/88) and cholesterol (182) are also in their normal ranges! You've done some good work here! - what exactly have you been doing?"
James said, "I've been eating better and exercising."
"Well," the doctor said, "You no longer have any signs of your diabetes, or neuropathy - so you don't need the cane. Good work, James."
"The doctor cautioned James, "But don't expect the diabetes is really gone, it can come back at any time, so keep up the good work, and I'll see you in 6 months."
James was so happy and excited that his doctor had given him a clean bill of health. He hurried home and called DeWayne to give him the good news and to thank him for his book and support.
James: "DeWayne, thank you! I'm going to tell anyone that will listen, about your book and your program. Thanks, again!"
